Current Accelerator Physics related work on the ISIS Ring.
Below is an outline of our current projects and plans. Links give more detail on the various topics, more will be added as progress is made. A shorter summary of current work activities may be found here.
(1) 300 uA, Dual Harmonic RF Upgrade
A dual harmonic RF system is presently being commissioned on the ring. In order to maximise the benefit of this upgrade, the following topics are under study:
(2) Injection Upgrade Studies
The injection painting process on the ISIS ring is critical in determining beam distributions, loss levels and therefore operational intensity. This is a potentially fruitful area for machine improvement, both for present operational optimisation, and the possibility of an upgraded injection system. The key stages in this work are:
(3) Loss Audit
Once the most obvious upgrade routes have been studied, it is planned to review the main limitations and causes of loss on the ring. This will include all important effects, for example alignment, power supply stability, control of injected distributions, as well as intrinsic high intensity beam issues.
(4) New Measurements & Diagnostics for High Intensity and R&D
To allow more detailed study of high intensity phenomena, improved beam measurement and control is required. Some of these topics are covered in Section (1) above, some other key topics are:
