EMU FLYPAST PERFORMANCE IN DILUTION FRIDGE

EMU Flypast performance.


We have been testing the dilution fridge in flypast to enable small samples to be measured. Initial test results are shown in the figure which show a Kubo-Toyabe (KT) signal from a copper plate at 40K. We have three sample sizes, a full 50x50mm sample plate which fills the entire beam. a 7x7mm sample and a 4x4mm sample. For the smaller samples a constant background has been removed and the standard KT behaviour is observed. There is a slightly reduced asymmetry for small samples due to muons stopping in the rear detector ring, however this ring can be removed from the data analysis as required.
