Discus: A Computer program for the calculation of multiple scattering effects in inelastic neutron scattering experiments
The Discus programme originally authored by M.W. Johnson can be used in the analysis of inelastic neutron scattering data to calculate phonon backgrounds. This is particularly useful in helping to separate magnetic and structural scattering data that are often collected simultaneously when using powder samples. The program calculates the ratio of once-scattered to twice-scattered neutrons and may be used for any sample for which the scattering is of the form S(Q,ω).
The Discus program runs on the ISIS VMS Alpha cluster and a Matlab interface function is available.
