An unusual view of water. From neutron experiments at ISIS, we have learnt how water molecules cluster around each other. Water molecules have one oxygen atom and two hydrogen atoms. This picture shows part of a water molecule in the centre with the oxygen coloured red. The blue ‘tea-cup’ shapes indicate where the neighbouring water molecules will be located.

Professor Alan Soper was part of the team who created this image to explain their work on water. He talks a little bit more about this picture and the work it represents.
