Last week, 1500 accelerator physicists and engineers gathered in Kyoto, Japan, to take part in the first International Particle Accelerator Conference.
This new annual conference replaces the previous biennial Asian, European and North-American Accelerator Conferences.
ISIS was well represented with poster presentations by members of the Injector and Synchrotron Groups.
Interesting talks were given on the progress of the LHC and potential future accelerators such as Project-X at Fermilab and the International Linear Collider, ILC. Of particular interest to ISIS staff were presentations on the latest achievements and challenges encounter at the J-PARC and SNS spallation neutron sources. Understanding the issues these facilities have faced and seeking collaboration with the colleagues operating them will be of great benefit in designing upgrades to ISIS.
The conference concluded with a tour of the J-PARC facility to see first hand the neutron and muon experiment hall and the main control room.
More information is available from the conference website ipac10.org. The next conference will be held in San Sebastian, Spain in September 2011.
