We are looking for world-class scientists who can make significant contributions to our current and future research programmes across a wide range of disciplines. Closing date for applications: 2 January 2012.
Working at ISIS is an excellent opportunity to develop collaborative and personal scientific research programmes and to help shape the future of neutron science. We have a range of permanent and fixed term positions available. We are an interdisciplinary research centre at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory co-located with the Diamond Light Source and the Research Complex at Harwell.

Advanced spin labelling techniques (Offspec: IRC36475, Larmor: IRC36359)
Spin labelling techniques offer exciting new possibilities for neutron enabled science. At ISIS the Offspec instrument delivers spin labelling capability and is to be complemented by the Larmor instrument in the second phase of instrument construction on the second target station. To support this ambitious science programme in reflection, small angle scattering and diffraction we require both a permanent and fixed term position for the Offspec and Larmor instruments respectively. A fixed term vacancy exists to contribute to the scientific programme within the nanomagnetism research group. The group has strong collaborative research projects in a wide range of magnetism and superconductivity. The post is focussed on exploiting neutron (and complementary) techniques to provide a quantitative nanoscale understanding of magnetic and superconducting materials. A fixed term vacancy exists to contribute to the development of analysis tools that exploit small angle neutron scattering as a tool for structural biology. The biology group requires the development and application of robust and effective analysis techniques to fully exploit the high quality data. The applicant will have demonstrated skills in structural analysis and modelling of proteins and a familiarity with one or more programming languages. Crystallography Group Leader (IRC36435)
The Crystallography Group at ISIS delivers and enables a world class scientific programme across a broad range of materials science. We are looking for a highly motivated and independent scientist to provide scientific and strategic leadership to the Crystallography Group, to shape the development of neutron crystallography, to deliver an international acknowledged research programme and to contribute to wider STFC issues at a senior level. Chemical crystallographer (IRC35435)
A permanent vacancy exists to develop the chemical crystallography programme at ISIS. The successful candidate will collaborate with members of the Crystallography Group to provide a high standard of scientific support with a focus on chemical crystallography. The position offers an excellent opportunity to develop a personal scientific programme in the area of chemical crystallography. Experimental scientist for neutron imaging (IRC35936)
A fixed-term vacancy exists to contribute to the development of the first UK neutron imaging beamline Imat at ISIS. The applicant will be familiar with neutron imaging techniques. The position offers the opportunity to develop a personal scientific programme in a materials science subject, by using neutron imaging or neutron diffraction techniques. Engineering materials scientist (IRC35236)
A permanent vacancy exists for a scientist to support the user programme of the Engin-x neutron strain scanner at ISIS. A strong background in strain analysis using neutron or x-ray methods is essential. Experience in developing neutron instrumentation components and data analysis software will be an advantage.
