The Right Honourable Vince Cable MP, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills visited ISIS today (13 August 2013) where he had an opportunity to visit both target stations and talk to ISIS scientists about how the facility is working with industry to solve real-world problems – from under-sea pipes to turbochargers to rail tracks to testing microelectronics – alongside more fundamental research.
He saw both Engin-X and CHIPIR, currently under construction, and had this to say:
“ISIS is one of the world-leading facilities that makes Harwell such a draw for researchers of all kinds. Continuing UK investments in ISIS, such as a new instrument to help companies test microelectronics, will enable it to be at the forefront of academic and industrial research for many years to come.”
He was shown round by Andrew Taylor, Director of National Labs at STFC and John Womersley, Chief Executive of STFC.
