Lithium niobate and lithium tantalates are key materials for applications in various domains of electronics and integrated optics: nonlinear optics as harmonic generations (SHG, etc.), IR camera, SAW, optic guides, etc. These applications are based on outstanding physical properties of these compounds (large electro-optic coefficients, etc.) and derived materials. In addition, LiNbO3 has one of the highest values of the ferroelectric Curie temperatures (TC) with TC = ca 1415 K. The main purpose of the present work is to tempt to correlate the composition, the structure and the outstanding physical properties of pure phases and derived non-stoichiometric compounds.
