Zeynep Kurban is studying for an EngD at University College London under the supervision of Prof. Neal Skipper (UCL) and Prof. Steve Bennington (RAL). She is currently based at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and is working on a project studying the potential of nanostructuring to enhance the properties of hydrogen storage materials. The project has been exploring the behaviour of hydrogen in doped and nanostructured carbons, including the graphite intercalation compounds, and the use of electrospinning as a synthesis route for nanofibrous complex hydrides. Zeynep is mostly focussing on optimising the electrospinning system and process parameters to engineer fibrous hydrogen storage materials with desired properties. The project involves collaboration with the Micro and Nano Technology Centre at RAL, Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Oxford, and the London Centre for Nanotechnology at UCL.
