Examples of vanadium sample cans, and lids. View full-size image
The ISIS Experimental Operations Division has four different sizes of vanadium can available. The vanadium sample cans are used mostly on the diffraction instruments.
The vanadium cans are electron beam welded, transparent to neutrons with a temperature range from 2K to 1273K. The cans cannot be used with hydrogen, due to hydrogen embrittlement.
Max working Pressure at room temperature
A higher working temperature, will result in the working pressure being reduced. Approval is required to work at a higher temperature, the request should be made through Chris Goodway.
