Umbrella is a federated identity system for the users of the (European) large neutron and photon facilities. Identity system: Umbrella allows providing these users with a unique, persistent identity. That means that a user will be able to log in at any of the participating facilities and have access to the services offered. There will be only one person with this identity. Persistent: Once defined, this identity will be valid for the rest of the academic life. Federated: This identity is valid not only at one facility but holds at all partner facilities.
For users that have an Umbrella account and already have an account with RAL Facilities you can link your account by first logging in to Umbrella and then navigating to https://users.facilities.rl.ac.uk/auth/ and click the "Sign in with Umbrella" link below the Sign In form.
You will then be taken to a very similar login page with a message at the top informing you to sign in using your RAL credentials to complete the account linking. Please check that the correct Umbrella account name is display in the message box.
If you are already signed in to RAL facilities you should see a message box appear at the top of the page asking if you'd link to link your Umbrella account with the currently signed in account. Click this link and you will and you will be taken to a login page with a message informing you to sign in using your RAL credentials to complete the account linking. Please check that the correct Umbrella account name is display in the message box.
Once logged in to Umbrella navigate to https://users.facilities.rl.ac.uk/auth/ and either click on the "Sign in with Umbrella" link below the sign in form or click the link in the message box that appears at the top of the page.
If you want to remove the link between your Umbrella account and your RAL facilities account you will need to first sign in at https://users.facilities.rl.ac.uk/auth/ followed by clicking the "Update your details" link in the "Your Details" box.
