Mechanical Design/Project Engineer

The Science and Technology Facilities Council brings strategic leadership to UK investments in large national and international research facilities, together with delivering world-class science and technology. The Council is involved in some of the world’s most advanced facilities, such as ISIS. ISIS is a world-leading source of pulsed neutrons and muons located at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, near Oxford. The facility performs cutting edge research into the structure and properties of materials at an atomic and molecular level. There are currently several opportunities for engineers to join the ISIS Design Division and work closely with fellow engineers and scientists, specifying, designing, procuring and developing bespoke mechanical and electrical equipment and complex systems for the facility.

The Role:

There are currently several opportunities for engineers to join the ISIS Design Division and work closely with fellow engineers and scientists, specifying, designing, procuring and developing bespoke mechanical and electrical equipment and complex systems for the facility.

You will work as part of a team designing scientific equipment. The role will involve seeing designs for concept though to manufacture and installation on site.

Working within the ISIS Design Division, you will be part of a team responsible for the delivery of world leading scientific equipment. You will work very closely with the project lead and will be involved in every aspect of the project delivery from concept through detailed design and drawings to installation on site.

ISIS uses a wide range of technologies, from RF cavities and magnetic components, through to materials used in extreme environments.

You would have a broad understanding of the engineering and be able to demonstrate the depth of knowledge on a particular area of expertise.

Duties will include:
