Senior Water Plant Engineer

A vacancy exists for an experienced plant engineer to improve cooling-water systems on the world-leading ISIS spallation neutron source at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire. ISIS supports a national and international community of more than 2000 scientists for research into subjects ranging from clean energy and the environment, pharmaceuticals and health care, through to nanotechnology, materials engineering and IT. But ISIS also depends very much upon the efficient operation of a variety of water systems to cool the complex multi-megawatt electrical, mechanical, RF and vacuum equipment that make up the particle accelerator and target systems that generate the neutrons. ISIS has been operating for more than 25 years, and so it is timely to thoroughly re-examine the existing water systems (e.g. in terms of temperatures, flow rates, pressures, electrical conductivity and pH), propose improvements, and implement and commission the resultant upgraded water systems.

The position will be working in the ISIS Design Division, based at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.

LIST OF DUTIES / WORK PROGRAMME / RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties will include:

Responsibility for the design of major upgrade water plant within ISIS. 
Managing tendering, procurement and delivery of approved designs. 
Project management to the STFC and ISIS approved methodologies

Fellow multi-discipline Design Division Engineers. 
ISIS scientific staff 
ISIS operation and installation staff 
STFC building projects staff 
STFC procurement and contracts staff
