At STFC’s ISIS facility, a leading scientific research centre located in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Oxfordshire, our engineers take advantage of the latest technologies to deliver the seemingly impossible.
We now have an opportunity for an experienced plant engineer to lead a small team of dedicated engineers to improve our cooling-water systems on the world-leading ISIS spallation neutron source. ISIS relies upon the efficient operation of a variety of water systems, (many using de-ionised water) to cool the complex multi-megawatt electrical and mechanical systems that make up the accelerator and target systems that generate the neutrons. ISIS has been operating for more than 25 years, and so it is timely to thoroughly re-examine the existing water systems (in terms of temperatures, flow rates, pressures, electrical conductivity and pH etc), propose improvements, and implement and commission the resultant upgraded water systems.
The position will be working in the ISIS Design Division, based at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.
Responsibilities will include:
- the design of major upgrade water plant within ISIS
- managing tendering, procurement and delivery of approved designs
- project management to the STFC and ISIS approved methodologies.
You will deal directly with the following internal stakeholders:
- fellow multi-discipline Design Division Engineers
- ISIS operation and installation staff
- ISIS scientific staff
- STFC building projects staff
- STFC procurement and contracts staff.
There is the opportunity for collaboration with other international facilities sharing technical knowledge.
