Molecular semiconductors are used in applications such as organic light emitting devices (OLED displays) and show potential for photovoltaics, simple logic circuits as well as for hybrid organic – inorganic devices. For these applications one needs to know and control the thin film crystal structure, molecular orientation, and film morphology –the molecular orientation for example determines the orientation of the transition dipole moments and therefore light absorption and emission.
