Description of the Department
ISIS is the spallation neutron source located at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in the UK. Operation centres on a high intensity proton synchrotron accelerator.
The Controls group Electronics and Embedded Systems section are responsible for the design, development and maintenance of electronic interface cards and associated embedded systems that form part of the whole ISIS Accelerator Controls system. The successful candidate will form part of a multidisciplinary team involved in the design, manufacturing, test and installation of electronic equipment for the ISIS particle accelerator.
List of Duties / Work Programme / Responsibilities
• Designing and developing mission critical electronic systems (analogue and digital) and associated hardware.
• Advising on the best electronic/electrical solutions taking into account budgetary and time constraints, while delivering optimum performance and reliability.
• Redeveloping or upgrading the remaining outdated electronic/electrical systems still used on ISIS as directed by the sustainability programme to ensure continued serviceability of these systems which are critical for the running of the ISIS accelerator.
• In addition the successful candidate(s) will be expected to assist with the installation and maintenance of electronic systems and related hardware within the accelerator environment. This will require the candidate to become a classified radiation worker.
