Once your experiment has been scheduled, you will receive an e-mail from the User Office confirming the dates and listing booked Sample Environment equipment.

  1. Check you have been allocated the Sample Environment equipment you need. As soon as you receive the date of your experiment from the Instrument Scientist, please check that the Sample Environment equipment is correct, and if not, inform your local contact. Should you require special equipment that requires engineering, assembly or testing, details must be given as soon as possible, but at least six weeks before the experiment is due to start.
  2. We need to know in advance who is coming for your experiment so that they can be given access to the ISIS experimental hall.Complete a Visit Notification online at https://users.facilities.rl.ac.uk/visits/isis/ to register the names of everyone that will attend and, if required, request their accommodation and/or transport.
  3. Complete an Experiment Risk Assessment (or get one of your team to complete it*). Please go to https://users.facilities.rl.ac.uk/eras to confirm all of the operational details of the experiment so we can put the necessary safety arrangements in place. An Experiment Risk Assessment (ERA) is required for all experiments and replaces the COSHH forms used previously.
    • * If you would like another member of the team to complete the assessment, please email the user office stating the experiment reference (RB) number and the registered email address of the person you'd like to have access.
    • If you require any help in completing the form, please contact your local contact or our Sample Safety Team on isissamplesafety@stfc.ac.uk
  4. If members of your team will need access to isiscompute to analyse the data during the experiment then each member will require a Federal ID - if they don't have one already they can request one by logging into the user portal. If they were not on the original proposal you will also need to email the user office to give your permission (as PI) to give them access to the data. Please provide the experiment reference number and the registered email address of the person who requires access when contacting the user office.
  5. Ensure everyone who plans to come to ISIS to carry out the experiment completes the tasks listed in the Experiment Team Members section below at least one week prior to arrival.

Read our 'what to do on arrival' page.
