In my lecture I shall at first briefly introduce the new Institute of Soft Matter and Functional Materials that has been established at the HZB in Berlin in 2009. Then I’ll give an overview on our recent activities on small-angle neutron scattering applied to well-defined molecular and supramolecular structures. Here our work on dendrimers and related structures will be highlighted. Special emphasis is put on contrast variation. As an example, I’ll discuss recent work done on nanoparticles made from polyethylene. Finally, I’ll discuss possible fields of collaboration of our institute with ISIS.
