The facility was constructed at ISIS in the early 1990s by the Japanese RIKEN institute to enable Japanese scientists to benefit from muon studies. It represents a very significant, productive and long-standing collaboration between RIKEN and ISIS that both partners are rightly proud of.
So it was with great pleasure that RIKEN staff hosted visitors from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) at ISIS in March. RIKEN also has a very long-standing collaboration with CAS. As part of that ongoing partnership, RIKEN wanted to introduce CAS staff to the RIKEN-ISIS muon facility as an example of a strong and successful RIKEN overseas partnership.
Dr Kenji Oeda, RIKEN Executive Director, together with staff from the RIKEN Global Affairs Office, visited ISIS with Mr Qiu Hua-Sheng, Deputy Director General of the CAS Bureau of International Co-operation and other CAS staff members. They were impressed by the work of the RIKEN-ISIS muon facility and the strong and long-standing ISIS-RIKEN collaboration.
