The ISIS neutron and muon source is a world-leading research centre which generates beams of neutrons and muons to study the atomic-level properties of materials, from soap films to superconductors, engineering to earth science, advanced battery components to biomolecules. As a world-leading research facility, ISIS has a key role to play in engaging with the public and inspiring young people with science, and regularly undertakes outreach activities including tours of the experimental halls as part of its public engagement programme. Reporting to the PE officer and working with ISIS engineers, the candidate will use CAD, mcnpx or geant4 models, 3D modelling software (e.g. Blender) and a game development engine (e.g. Unreal engine 4) to develop virtual tours that would be used to promote the science and engineering undertaken at the facility. The candidate will ideally have some 3D modelling and game development experience but candidates with graphic design, CAD or animation experience with an interest in virtual reality will be considered.
You will gain experience in developing a product from scratch at a high-tech facility and experience in its implementation. The project is highly multidisciplinary, working with ISIS staff from a range of backgrounds and allowing the development of skills in a range of areas.
