Permanent developer jobs on our team

We are often looking for several software developers / software engineers to join our team. Although we do expect everyone to "muck in" when needed, we also realise that few can be an expert at everything. We are looking for a mix of developers. Are you a software developer that loves to craft backend libraries and web services? Or are you a web frontend developer that desperately wants to make our software a sheer delight to use? Love querying data with SQL and spotting patterns? If you answered yes to any of those questions then we could be perfect for each other.

Degree Apprenticeship Scheme

Want to learn, get a degree and start getting real relevant work experience while earning too?

You will need at least BTEC Level 3 in computing or equivalent and be interested in developing your expertise in network design, cyber security, servers, storage & virtualisation, cloud computing, bring your own device (BYOD), Unix, DevOps, software-defined networking, and the internet of things (IoT).

For general information about the wider apprenticeship scheme please see: STFC Apprenticeships

Junior Software Scientist Scheme

Recently completed your PhD in a STEM subject (other than computing)? Want to pursue a career in scientific software development but do not have the skills? The Junior Software Scientist Scheme, within ISIS, is a subset of the STEM Conversion Scheme run by UKRI and could be just what you are after. Our one-year Postgraduate level conversion scheme is similar in nature to the UKRI Graduate Programme. New recruits start at Band C and are re-banded to the higher band on successful completion of training which enhances their computing skills and equips them for the chosen career path. The training comprises an Open University Course in Software Engineering, several technology and process specific PluralSight Courses, and rigorous on the job training. Our two candidates, Harriet Brown and Richard Waite, have recently completed the scheme. See their reflections on their year here: Being a student at ISIS

Talent Pool

If we don't have a position that is right for you just yet we'd still like to hear from you.

You can submit your CV and cover letter to talentpool@stfc.ac.uk

Want to know a bit more? Matt, our 2013/14 student, wrote a short report on his time with us to help you find out what it is really like. (P.S. Matt returned as a Graduate Software Engineer and after a short while took on a full Software Engineer position!)

Vacation Student Placements

We usually have details of new positions for next summer available from early spring.
