The three samples are mounted simultaneously onto the centre stick, in a vertical fashion. The samples can then be moved up and down, alternating which one is in the beam line. This allows for faster cycling of samples as it reduces the number of times the cryostat has to be warmed and then re-cooled between changing samples.
