Some projects can make the difference, not just because of the discoveries in Science, but also for the technological and human challenges they involve. The project "NANOCOSMOS, Gas and dust, from the Stars to the Laboratory: Exploring the Nanocosmos", funded by the European Research Council (ERC) with a Synergy Grant, has a main goal: to reproduce inside several machines the conditions given in the envelopes of evolved stars that lead to the creation of the dust grains.

In the call for 2016 the NANOCOSMOS program obtained funds from the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) in order to produce a documentary about the project, entitled "Nanocosmos: a journey to the small".
In this contribution we will talk about the experience that resulted in this 40 minutes audio-visual project. This road movie talks about Astrochemistry (molecular astrophysics), a young branch of Astronomy that involves a lot of laboratory and modelling work (managed from three institutions in Spain and France) as well as scientific observations.

In the movie, this trip from the dead of an evolved star to the interstellar medium, runs in parallel with the journey of the scientists in their quest for knowledge, accompanied by the recording team in a three dimensions story: science and technology, human aspect and curiosity.

The documentary is available in Spanish with subtitles in Spanish, English and French and has been selected in the International Biennial Scientific Films festival.
