The Cybaman Manipulator is high capacity robot which can rotate samples of up to 20kg weight. Used in conjunction with the SScanSS virtual laboratory software, it can be used to automatically orient a sample so that any strain component can be measured in one set-up. SScanSS can also calculate the optimum rotation about the strain measurement direction to minimise attenuation of the neutron beam through the sample.
