A number of high pressure systems are available to ISIS users.

High Pressure

At ISIS we are able to provide intensifiers, clamped cells and all of the necessary centre sticks to enable experiments to be carried out under high pressures. Please click on the respective links to find more information. If you have any further questions or think that you may want to use some of this equipment on your experiment then please discuss this with the relevant instrument scientist.

Intensifiers (up to 10 kbar gas and 14 kbar oil).

High Pressure Gas Cells (up to 8 kbar)

Clamped Cells (up to 20 kbar)

Paris-Edinburgh Presses

Centre Sticks (up to 10 kbar)

User's Own Pressure Equipment
User’s who wish to use their own Pressure or Gas Handling facility on an ISIS instrument should seek advice from the SE Section in advance to ensure that their equipment conforms to the Laboratory’s Safety and Pressure regulations. Such equipment must either be certificated by an Engineer from an external organisation, or will be pressure tested at ISIS prior to use. Failure to comply with these requirements could result in the delay or cancellation of the experiment. For more information about our testing procedures please click here.

The Design Office has acquired considerable experience in the design and construction of special cells for gas condensation, and should be contacted for advice.
