Particle accelerators are at the heart of the world’s biggest, most exciting scientific research facilities. Alongside the particle physics of the LHC, accelerators provide vital medical diagnostics and cancer treatment, enable the development of advanced materials and offer the potential for clean, safe nuclear power. This open day will showcase the impact of the 25,000 accelerators in operation worldwide and the amazing careers of the people that work with them.
MEET academic and industrial employers offering training and employment opportunities in accelerator science.
HEAR recent physics and engineering graduates talk about the range of challenges and opportunities they have experienced in their accelerator science careers.
SEE behind the scenes of a world leading particle accelerator facility. Tours of the ISIS neutron and muon source and the Diamond light source will be available.
Transport to/from Didcot Parkway will be available. A coach will be collecting students at 12.00 prompt, and will be returning to Didcot Parkway at 17.00.
Lunch will also be provided.
