The sample is pumped from a cool chamber (typically room temperature) into a hot chamber which may be at 120°C. Moving the liquid from one chamber to the other creates a very rapid change in temperature and accompanying structural transitions. The Cell was designed with neutron transparency in mind meaning that these structural transitions can be probed in real time on several of our neutron instruments.
