Using other RAL facilities
ISIS users may access other RAL facilities when scientific or experimental requirements make it necessary. In particular, ISIS maintains strong collaborations with Diamond Light Source for joint beamtime and the Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH) for specialised equipment use.
Diamond Light Source
Joint Access to ISIS and Diamond Light Source
Science that uses multiple Harwell Campus facilities is encouraged. For experiments requiring both ISIS and Diamond, proposals should be submitted to only one facility and will be reviewed by a single panel. Submission should consider:
Primary usage: Submit to the facility where most beamtime or instrument access is required.
Applicants must consult with the relevant ISIS and Diamond staff before submission to confirm the appropriate facility. The proposal must justify the need for access to both facilities and clearly outline the experimental plan for each.
Use the online proposal system to flag access to the secondary facility. Submitting the same proposal to both facilities separately will result in independent review of each proposal and not a joint review.

Research Complex at Harwell
The Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH) is a multidisciplinary laboratory located on the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL). It supports research across the life and physical sciences, particularly for users of ISIS, CLF and Diamond Light Source.
UK researchers with approved ISIS experiments are eligible to use RCaH facilities, ranging from short visits for sample characterisation to longer research programmes. Available equipment includes electron microscopes, NMR instruments, and a range of physics, chemistry and biological equipment. Further details are available on the RCaH website.

Other STFC facilities
A range of other world-class facilities are also based at the RAL site and across STFC, including the Central Laser Facility (CLF), RAL Space, and the Hartree Centre.
