Industry experts join new ISIS advisory committee

The committee, which will meet annually, includes experts from a diverse range of industries, all with experience of using large-scale research facilities like ISIS.

“Industry is an important part of the ISIS user community, so it’s vital that we understand both the opportunities and challenges businesses face,” explained Christopher Frost, ISIS Industry Lead. “The committee members bring first-hand experience of using facilities like ISIS to tackle real-world research and development challenges. Their expertise will be invaluable in strengthening our partnerships with industry, enabling us to better support companies in creating commercial value, driving innovation and accelerating growth.”

The committee has a broad remit, from identifying opportunities for industrial research and innovation to advising on the development of the ISIS industrial strategy and its alignment with wider government priorities.

During the inaugural meeting, members discussed access routes for commercial users, opportunities to raise awareness of neutron and muon techniques and how ISIS might expand its offer to industry.

Andrew Barrow, Associate Fellow at Rolls-Royce and Chair of the IIAC, said “ISIS provides unique capabilities that are difficult to access elsewhere and can play an important role in solving industrial challenges. By sharing our experiences, we hope to help more businesses recognise the potential of neutron and muon techniques and the benefits they bring to research and innovation.”
