ISIS hosts international deuteration and DeuNet meetings
16 Jul 2026
ISIS hosted the ISIS Deuteration Meeting and Deuteration Network (DeuNet) Assembly 2026 at Cosener’s House in Abingdon from 29 June to 1 July. The event brought together global experts to discuss molecular deuteration—the process of replacing hydrogen with deuterium to make complex molecular structures visible during neutron scattering.
Presentations covered diverse breakthroughs, including virus-mimicking lipid nanoparticles for stable RNA delivery, microfluidic techniques to observe microemulsions under flow, and deuterated frameworks for hydrogen isotope exchange. On July 1, the international DeuNet Assembly (hybrid) featured updates from leading facilities like ANSTO in Australia, Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the US, Jülich Centre for Neutron Science in Germany, and the European Spallation Source in Sweden. Speakers emphasized global collaboration to share expertise and improve user access to custom deuterated materials rather than duplicating efforts.
“The meeting offered a fantastic opportunity for users to engage directly with the ISIS Deuteration Facility team, spark ideas, and discuss exciting future research collaborations,” said Peixun Li, ISIS science lead for chemical deuteration.
The event wrapped up on July 2 with a tour of the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, highlighting how these chemical and biological technologies support next-generation research in medicine, materials, and energy.
