Weaker bonds lead to improved thermoelectric performance

By substituting copper or silver for zinc in a thermoelectric material, an international group of researchers have found that this weakens the ionic bonds present, leading to reduced thermal conductivity: an important property for thermoelectric materials. Thermoelectric generators can be used to generate electricity directly from waste heat and are thus very useful for reducing energy loss and waste.
