A white man with short dark hair

Dr Joe Kelleher joined ISIS in 2009 as an Instrument Scientist on Engin-X, specialising in the measurement and modelling of residual stress in engineering components. He completed his PhD at the University of Manchester through industrially sponsored research on residual stress in railway rails, contributing to safety improvements following the Hatfield derailment in 2000. After completing his PhD, he undertook a postdoctoral position in a Manchester-Bristol collaborative project funded by the UK MoD aimed at understanding and improving material performance under various stress conditions. His expertise extends to high-resolution Bragg edge imaging, deformation mechanics of polycrystals, and stress mitigation around cracks and scientific computing software for diffraction experiments. He is also involved in the development of IMAT on TS2, enhancing imaging and diffraction capabilities at ISIS.
