Your needs during your visit
ISIS welcomes a diverse range of visitors for experiments and aims to make every visit as productive and enjoyable as possible. We recognise that some visitors may have specific needs, and we are committed to accommodating these to the best of our ability.
We want ISIS to be a place where everyone who works or visits feels comfortable being themselves and experiences no discrimination on the basis of age, race, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy or maternity, gender reassignment, disability, religion or belief, or marriage or civil partnership.
Below are some of the ways we support a diverse range of visitors to ISIS. If you have specific needs you would like us to be aware of so we can support your visit, please get in touch with one of the following:
- Your experiment local contact or instrument scientist
- A member of the ISIS User Office (isisuo@stfc.ac.uk)
- A member of the ISIS EDI Action Group by emailing ISIS4EVERYONE@stfc.ac.uk or by submitting a message anonymously through the online form.
You may also wish to read our User Charter, which outlines what you can expect from ISIS, and what we ask of you, during your time at the facility.
Accessibility
The ISIS experimental halls include a number of stairways and platforms, and due to the nature and age of some buildings, not all areas are accessible by lift. If you are a wheelchair user or have mobility or visual impairments, please let us know in advance so we can do our best to support your visit. We are very happy to discuss any specific access requirements with you.
Magnetic fields are present in some areas at ISIS. Most are contained within equipment, and any stray magnetic fields in accessible areas are clearly marked on floors or other surfaces. Visitors with pacemakers are welcome at ISIS; however, please inform us in advance so we can help you avoid areas with stray magnetic fields.
Religious observance
If you have any specific religious observance needs, please let your local contact know so we can support you where possible. A multi-faith prayer room is available for everyone to use at the ground floor entrance foyer of R3 (the main ISIS staff building).
Dietary requirements
The R22 restaurant can provide meals to suit a range of dietary requirements, including gluten-free, dairy-free, Halal, and other specific needs. Please speak with STFC restaurant staff for guidance on suitable options. If you need to eat outside normal opening hours, for example, during Ramadan, please let us and the STFC restaurant staff know in advance and we will do our best to make appropriate arrangements.
See general information for STFC catering here.
