Scientists on Individual Merit Promotion

The Research Councils' Individual Merit Promotion scheme recognises senior scientific researchers who have made, and who will continue to make, an outstanding personal contribution in their field. The research councils and other participating organisations are invited to make nominations annually for individual merit promotion. The scheme is currently administered by the Natural Environment Research Council. More information about the scheme, and how to apply, can be found on their website.

ISIS Neutron and Muon Source has a number of Individual Merit scientists, reflecting the high quality of the science that takes place at the facility.

Adroja (Devashibhai)
In October 2019, Devashibhai Adroja (known as Adroja) will have been at STFC for 20 years. He was drawn to ISIS by “the fantastic science” and the science programme fits well with his research, which is on strongly correlated electron materials.
Bill David
Professor Bill David had his Level 2 Individual Merit promotion renewed in 2019 for his significant contributions to the development of neutron and X-ray powder diffraction.
Chris Frost
Dr Chris Frost gained his Individual Merit promotion in 2019. He works on the ChipIr instrument and as Industry Liaison Manager.
Chris Rogers
Dr Chris Rogers gained his individual merit promotion in April 2024 for contributions to particle accelerator design, particularly in neutron and muon production.
Dan Faircloth
Dan Faircloth has been working in ISIS for over 17 years and hasn’t looked back since, working to develop ISIS’s international reputation for ion source development.

Luke Clifton
Dr Luke Clifton earned his individual merit promotion in April 2024 for advancing bio-membrane research at ISIS to address global healthcare challenges, fostering growth within the life science user community.

Dr Pascal Manuel gained his individual merit promotion in April 2024 for key contributions to quantum matter research using neutrons, expanding international collaboration and developing instrument capabilities at ISIS.
