Chemical waste

  • Please do not dispose anything but clean water down the sink.

  • All liquid hazardous waste is segregated into four groups – Halogenated, Non-Halogenated, acid and base. Each lab has four labelled containers in the fume hood, please use these to dispose your liquid waste appropriately.

  • If you are unsure of the category of your waste, please leave it in the fume hood in a suitable container, labelled clearly with all its contents and marked for disposal. Please contact a member of the Lab Support Team and we will dispose of this for you.

  • All solid non-hazardous waste like, gloves, tissue paper, foil etc. should be disposed in the general bins provided.

  • Samples that need to be disposed have to be signed off by a member of Health Physics team and then placed in the dedicated box for disposal.
