Intracellular water could help us distinguish between healthy and malignant cells

Little is known about the transition of a cell from normal to cancerous. Neutron scattering on OSIRIS is helping to provide answers by studying the properties of water inside the cells. ​​​​Cancer is the second most common cause of death worldwide. With COVID-19 putting treatments and screening services on hold, cancer mortality rates – already predicted to double over the next two decades – may rise faster than we anticipated.
