Steve heads the Design Division at the ISIS facility, leading a team of about 75 other mechanical and electrical engineers, designing bespoke and often unique equipment for the particle accelerator, target and instrumentation systems. The team covers a broad range of technologies such as electromagnetic devices; RF systems; vacuum; cryogenics; mechatronics; controls; pressure systems; detector systems; water plant; HVAC; to name just a few!
 
Steve graduated from the University of Exeter with an MEng in Mechanical Engineering.  He joined ISIS through the graduate programme and worked as a project engineer, predominantly delivering accelerator systems for the ISIS Second Target Station Project, and Accelerator Design Group Leader before becoming Division Head.  He has 20 years experience working on equipment and systems for big science projects, and is still learning!​
